Music is one of the best mood setting elements a producer can add to any form of entertainment.  When I think about great mood setting music, the first example that immediately pops into my head is the shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.  Compared to today’s standards, the scene is not very gruesome but the mood and feel that the music adds creates a feeling of eeriness and horror.

Creepy right!

Music is used the very same way in video games.  It sets the mood, adds to the game play and gives the user an emotional connection and response to the game’s tone.

Since video game music is so important, I decided to make a top 10 list.  Without further ado Here is my list of the best video game music of all time!

10. L.A Noire

9. Ninja Gaiden 2: Act 2-2

8. Mega Man 2: Dr. Wily Stage 1

7. Street Fighter 2: Guile’s Theme

6. Zelda 2: Castle Theme

5. Castlevania 2 Simon’s Quest: Bloody Tears

4. DuckTales: Moon Theme

3. Super Metroid

2. Final Fantasy VII: Sephiroth Battle

1. Zelda

Music tastes are all very subjective.  I am sure most will argue some of the choices on my list, especially since I didn’t add the Super Mario Brothers theme.

If you want to argue it out, argue it out below in the comments section!
