bio-gro banned

The U.S Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the two major anti-doping agencies for many powerlifting federations as well as all forms of the Olympic Games, have recently added the supplement Bio-Gro to it’s list of high risk supplements as seen in the figure below.

Taking a look above at the section labeled “Comments,” we see that the company iSatori claims Bio-Gro is “Tested free of banned substances,” yet the ingredients plainly show a list of banned substances in all major sports and the Olympics.  These ingredients would include the Growth Factors, which are listed plain as day on the label below.

It seems pretty cut and dry to me.  It’s just a matter of how much needs to be taken to raise levels in the body to the point of a failed drug test.  At this point no one is sure, and this is the reason why Bio-Gro has been placed on the high risk supplement list.

So what does this tell us?

Read the labels!  I have written about this many times before and talked about this in videos, but the importance cannot be stressed enough. Never take supplements or any substance for that matter, without knowing exactly what it is.  Research it, learn the side effects, and weigh the risks versus the rewards.

This also tells us that supplement companies will flat out lie and put things on the label that they know to be untrue.  Remember that supplements are not regulated the same way that food is regulated, so you never truly know what is in the product you are taking.  This is why it is important to purchase supplements from reputable companies, but even then you aren’t 100% safe from foul play but the chances would be considerably less.

In fact, just last week the company Body Fortress was found to be skimping on the actual amount of protein in their supplements and amino spiking their whey protein powders.  There is now a class action lawsuit against the company for label misrepresentation.

So my advice is to simply eat well and use supplements sparingly, or not at all.

I hope things like this open your eyes to what is going on.  These companies want your money, and will do basically anything they can to get it.
